The Lady Hawks were started in 2016, with 2 members, looking to grow the game of footy for women in the Philadelphia area. After a successful year of friendly games and learning the sport, those same 2 members represented the team at USAFL Nationals, for the first time in club history. Energized by the experience, the club started recruiting, and 2017 saw a huge boon in active female members. We sent 5 club members to Nationals in 2017, teaming up with the Portland Sockeyes, and our ladies never looked back. After running the table on the competition, the Sockeyes/Hawks were crowned the 2017 Division 2 Premiers!
Excited by such a strong start to our women’s side, the Philadelphia Hawks are actively recruiting to build up a full side of Lady Hawks! We’re looking for women of any age and fitness level who want to join a great community of lady footballers in the USAFL, and the Philly Hawks club. No experience is necessary! What is Footy?
Australian Rules Football (also “Aussie Rules” or ” footy”) is a physical sport. It is a form of football with roots traceable from early forms of Rugby and Gaelic football, but it is uniquely Australian. High energy and fast-paced, it’s been growing in the US by the year, and we’re looking to help expand the game to the women of the Philadelphia Area!
Check out our What is Aussie Rules page for more detailed information on the finer parts of footy!
